PUMA House Tokyo | By nendo (Oki Sato)

PUMA House Tokyo | By nendo (Oki Sato)

While trained as an architect at the prestigious Waseda University of Japan, Oki Sato of the firm nendo is known to have a penchant for a multitude of disciplines. Based on the desire, “Giving people a small “!” moment. There are so many small “!” moments hidden in our everyday.”, which also doubles as his firm’s mission statement, Sato created the new PUMA House in Tokyo. Located at the trendy Aoyama neighborhood, PUMA House, like its designer, is a multiplicity interior space. It functions not only as showroom for media/press, but an event and gallery space for special occasions. Created in modularity, the sparse locale filled with “staircases”, an effort that not functions as display for products, a testing platform for footwear, and furnishing for visitor to rest upon. Their zig-zag natures also bring on a sense of character to the space. via: db

Iconix Bought Ed Hardy

So, you’re a longtime fan of Christian Audigier’s Ed Hardy brand? If so, 50 percent of your favorite brand’s stake was bought by one of the biggest names in streetwear world: Iconix Brand Group, Inc. And as tattoo t-shirts are still popular, Iconix reportedly paid 17 million dollars, comprised of 9 million dollars in cash and 8 million in stock. To top it all, the sellers could be entitled to receive an additional 1 million dollars in stock pursuant to an earn-out based on 2009 royalties received by Hardy Way.
[Read our other article on Christian Audigier]
Will there be any changes made to Ed Hardy’s famous tattoo t-shirt designs? Neil Cole, Chairman and CEO of Iconix stated:
“We are excited to have the opportunity to participate in the continued success of the Ed Hardy brand and believe there are tremendous growth opportunities worldwide. We also believe that by owning the brand alongside Don Ed Hardy, the founder, there will be opportunities to further leverage his iconic name along with his new artwork.”
And the master of the art, Don Ed Hardy, stated:
“As demand for my artwork continues to skyrocket, I felt it was time to take on a partner that could help me manage the demand and opportunities for the Ed Hardy name. Iconix is at the forefront of brand management and clearly has the capabilities to dramatically grow the Ed Hardy business. I’m thrilled to have them as a partner.”
It was back in1967 when Don Ed Hardy decided to transform the tattoo business into an artistic medium. Starting in 2003, the Ed Hardy brand has been run by Christian Audigier and his company: Nervous Tattoo. [Read more on the history of the Ed Hardy brand.]
We’ll have to wait and see what the new partnership will come out with. In the meantime, here are some Ed Hardy goods you’ll love, picked out by SoJones.com’s editors:

Kanye West’s Risque Scarf Line Coming Up

Remember the controversy of Kanye West’s CD cover for his album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy“? Well, it’s not like Kanye to keep such a symbolic artwork in the dark. The rapper has commissioned a line of scarves in collaboration with French design partnership M/M (Paris).
[Read our other article on Kanye West and his creation]
There will be five limited-edition designs available, all based on paintings made for Kanye’s album. The original work by artist George Condo which originally was selected to be the cover of the album was banned from stores last year due to the nudity. The artwork featured a nude portrait of the artist with a female beast on top of him.

Kanye decided to print the image in silk, along with four other design commissions based on his musical fantasies. The designs are named Power, Phoenix, Face, Priest and Ballerina, and each will be decorated with a frame of gold lettering created by M/M (Paris) team.
If you’re a huge fan of Kanye’s and are obsessed to get your hands on the scarves, you have to get going because there is only 100 of each design will be made and all will be sold exclusively at M/M (Paris)’s website. They will also be available at French boutique Colette for $364 each.

Charlie Sheen & Snoop Dogg To Release "Winning" To Radio

Charlie Sheen & Snoop Dogg To Release

The Sheenius plans on officially dropping the collaboration recorded for his comedy tour.
Charlie Sheen has been on a media rampage over the past few months, and now, he’s ready to take over the airwaves. The famed actor plans on releasing his single “Winning” featuring Snoop Dogg and Korn guitarist Rob Patterson, with plans for the tune to impact radio tomorrow.
"People will love the song," Sheen told the LA Times. "Who doesn't like to be winning?"
Sheen conceived the anthem after asking Patterson to pen and perform tracks for his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour. Once the music had been written, Patterson suggested that Tha Doggfather write its lyrics. “Snoop was on the top of that list,” said Sheen. “Snoop is a warlock. [...] He came in and nailed it in a couple of hours.”
"I didn't know how he'd react, because people have been kind of divided about Charlie," added Patterson. "But he's definitely, for lack of a better term, on Charlie's team."
Snoop previously shared his love for the famed actor. “He’s a brilliant guy,” he said. “I’m having so much fun just being around him. One thing about me, I’m different. I love having different relationships with people who aren’t the norm…people who aren’t the usual. One thing about Charlie is, he’s not normal. He’s not usual. We making some real, classic material."

Producer Hit-Boy Signs To G.O.O.D. Music

Producer Hit-Boy Signs To G.O.O.D. Music

The platinum producer joins the house that Kanye built and hints at a "Watch the Throne" contribution.
The G.O.O.D. Music roster keeps on growing. Joining Kid CuDi, Common and Big Sean on the label, producer Hit-Boy is the latest to sign to the famed imprint, confirming his partnership with Yeezy on his website and Twitter.
"Hit-Boy of the Surf Club has now joined forces with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music label," he wrote on his website.
While forthcoming projects under the G.O.O.D. Music skein are yet to be announced, he hinted at contributions to Kanye and Jay-Z's highly anticipated Watch the Throne LP. "New Wave for sure. Be on the look out for future endeavors from Hit-Boy & Kanye West. Jay-Z may even be included!" he added.Hit-Boy previously collaborated with Kanye with production on his holiday anthem "Christmas in Harlem."

Loose Links: Danger Mouse, Wiz Khalifa And Chris Brown

Loose Links: Danger Mouse, Wiz Khalifa And Chris Brown

Catch a free stream of Danger Mouse's "Rome" on NPR, get the inside scoop on how Wiz Khalifa made "Rolling Papers" and see how Chris Brown might be the missing link between the pop charts and urban radio.
Today we’re writing “Loose Links” with a heavy heart, as the Dallas Mavericks kicked our beloved Los Angeles Lakers in the teeth yesterday. We’re not only sad that the Lakers lost, it’s just that this 4-0 sweep guarantees that we’ll be hearing Ron Artest rap a lot sooner than we wanted to…sigh. Say Queensbridge, anyone? On a more positive note, the usual collection of randomly interesting clips from the Internet are cheering us up as the weekly grind continues.

“When in Rome…”

It’s easy to think of Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton as the dude who dresses in weird costumes and makes awesome music with Cee-Lo. But the Atlanta native was putting it down many years before he began donning strange costumes. As 2009’s Dark Night of the Soul proved, Danger Mouse has a diverse palette, and he further proves that fact by working with Daniele Luppi for a collection of surviving performers of classic ‘60s and ’70s Ennio Morricone scores and pairing them up with modern artists like Norah Jones and Jack White. It’s just as random as it sounds, but you can preview the full Rome album at the NPR site.

Listen to Danger Mouse And Daniele Luppi, “Rome”

“More steel than Pittsburgh…”

Regardless of how you feel about the album Rolling Papers, 2010-2011 was the period Wiz Khalifa saw himself break through to the mainstream’s collective consciousness. Our brethren at Complex.com put together an all-inclusive rundown of how Wiz’s number one album came together. Read it, and you’ll get accounts of everything from Wiz testing out “Hopes And Dreams” at a strip club to how an intoxicated drive through his hometown turned into the track “When I’m Gone.”

“All around the world, same song…”

Do you ever notice how no matter what state you’re in the radio stations all play the same thing? You can talk all you want to about how Clear Channel owns pretty much every station, but the homogenization of terrestrial radio has also impacted the charts. Al Shipley of The Village Voice has an interesting article on how urban radio has essentially been doing its own thing regardless of what’s going on with Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart.

Lil Wayne Adds Second Leg To "I Am Music II" Tour

Lil Wayne Adds Second Leg To

UPDATE: Weezy extends his successful tour with openers Rick Ross, Keri Hilson, Lloyd and Far*East Movement.
Fans in attendance for the first date of Lil Wayne’s “I Am Music II” tour, got to serve as the litmus test for what the rest of the country can expect when Wayne and company come to their city. The sequel to 2009’s $42 million-grossing “I Am Music Tour” began Wednesday in Providence, Rhode Island. In typical fashion, Rick Ross gave an endorsement of epic proportions.

“It’s a great moment in time…it’s a piece of history right here,” Rick Ross said. “With Lil Wayne just coming home—him being one of the biggest in the game. Nicki’s fresh off her platinum album, the homie Travis, myself…”

Wayne held up his end of the bargain with big-dollar pyrotechnics, a live band and a freestyle before directly addressing the packed house, saying, “I swear to God, I was in a place a few months ago…I couldn’t even imagine this shit,” Wayne told a capacity crowd. “But now that I’m here, it’s better than I could’ve ever imagined.”

Not to be outdone, Wayne’s Young Money cohort Nicki Minaj performed a string of hits from her platinum-selling Pink Friday  album, before treating one of her fans to a lapdance.

“Keep your legs wide open,” Nicki instructed. “Hands behind your back, and keep your mouth shut.”

T.I. To Be Released From Prison On September 29th and No Mercy reaches Gold

T.I. To Be Released From Prison On September 29th

Tip has a concrete date for when he will exit the Arkansas facility.
T.I. is coming home. The incarcerated rapper, born Clifford Harris, Jr., will be released from Arkansas’ Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Low on September 29, 2011 after completing his 11-month sentence for violating his parole.
The Atlanta, Georgia lyricist began serving his bid on November 1, 2010. The sentence stems from a drug arrest made in Hollywood, California in September, when police pulled him and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle over for making an illegal U-turn. A search of the vehicle turned up contraband materials, which led to the couple’s detainment.
The Grand Hustle Records honcho did not face drug charges in the case, but plead guilty for violating his parole. He had only recently been released from prison after serving his time for a prior weapons conviction.

T.I.'s
S/N..
He may have received no mercy but Tip did get the Gold
Though T.I.’s been behind bars since a month before the album’s release, and therefore unable to do any promotion, his seventh studio album, No Mercy, was just given Gold Certification for shipments in surplus of 500,000 units within the United States.  The record, released December 7th, took only six weeks to earn the coveted hardware.
But the sales for No Mercy are certainly a step down from Tip’s last release, 2008's Paper Trail. That LP went Gold after its first week in stores and eventually reached Double Platinum. But, as mentioned before, T.I.’s incarceration and inability to tour and promote combined with the constant decline of record sales can be blamed for much of the discrepancy between those two albums’ sales.
The second single from No Mercy, “That’s All She Wrote”, was released last week. The song, which features Eminem, is currently sitting at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Philip Knight x Oprah – Nike LunarGlide+ 2

Philip Knight x Oprah Nike LunarGlide+ 2

Herself a tireless promoter of all things positive, an avid believer of sound mind and body, Oprah Winfrey received a pleasant surprise from Philip Knight during his recent appearance when the Nike Co-Founder presented her with her very own Nike LunarGlide+ 2. Imprinted with Oprah’s signature on its tongue, along with the talk show host’s beloved oak tree on the sockliner, the neon yellow colorway Nike LunarGlide+ 2 features a custom wooden box, reconstituted from an old high school gymnasium floor. Laser etched on the top is Knight’s favorite quotes from Oprah, “I still have my feet on the ground. I just wear better shoes.” Of course, it wouldn’t be the Oprah Winfrey Show without free giveaway as 400 pairs were given out to audience members… via: SF
